#15 Homemade Deodorant

I started the life list a few months ago, and only just yesterday posted it on the site. I decided to keep one item I already began back in October. Frankly, I'm still proud that I took the leap to do this, and am delighted with the results! Most commercial deodorants are filled with nasty ingredients. This is a relatively undisputed claim. There is debate over the amount that enters our blood stream, however there is relatively little dispute on the carcinogen factor of some of these common ingredients. And while there are several "green" deodorants out there without these nasty ingredients...they tend to be expensive, not effective and frankly (to me) not worth the cost.

A year ago I stumbled across a recipe for making your own deodorant on a site called Angry Chicken. I was fascinated! And trepidatious. It seemed risky buying these new ingredients and gambling on this working for me. I was also a little leery about making a deodorant, knowing it is not an antiperspirant. Yet in October I took the leap and here I am! Four months later and loving my homemade deodorant. It's easy to use, once you get the hang of having a cream to rub in. The first couple of weeks I had a reaction, however found several other people had that issue too - my body had to adjust to the old chemicals going away and the new ingredients being introduced. I sincerely don't smell, don't have stains on my shirts and find it so easy to use. I think I'm going to try the coconut oil recipe below next (I still have another month with my current batch). I'll let you all know if I like that even better!
